Hydrocarbon leakage driven by Quaternary glaciations in the Barents Sea based on 2D basin and petroleum system modeling

چکیده

The Barents Sea has experienced intense erosion throughout the Cenozoic due to uplift and repeated episodes of glaciation. This, in turn, driven large pressure temperature fluctuations sediment substrate along with rearrangement thermogenic oil gas accumulations. As a result, some hydrocarbon fields have relatively shallow depths, natural release is widespread. This study focuses on process leakage from Realgrunnen reservoir - encompassing Hanssen Wisting discoveries subsurface caused by cycles glacial central Quaternary. We apply 2D basin petroleum system modeling two seismic sections using data wells run ten different scenarios that test model sensitivity key parameters. find primary factors governing are amount, its distribution between preglacial stages, timing glaciations. Our results demonstrate occurs primarily through widespread faults activated during first deglaciation episode. Further considerable seal breach after critical overburden thickness eroded decreases ca. 9 MPa. Modeling reveals episode causes up 20% loss reservoir, whereas yields further 15% decrease gas. supported analyses area.

Petroleum System of the Gippsland Basin, Australia

The Gippsland Basin Province 3930, located on the southeastern coast of Australia, is formed from two successive failed rifts that developed into a passive margin during the Cretaceous. Formation of this basin is related to the break up of Gondwana, which resulted in the separation of Antarctica from Australia, and the separation of the New Zealand and Lord Howe Rise continental crust from Aust...

The Barents Sea

Fisheries in the North Atlantic, southeast Atlantic, and eastern central Atlantic reached their maximum production levels one or two decades ago and are now showing a declining trend in total catches (1). The declining catches are consistent with observations that these areas have the highest incidence of overexploited stocks, depleted stocks or slowly recovering stocks that have been depleted ...

Chronology of Quaternary glaciations in East Africa

A new glacial chronology for equatorial East Africa is developed using in situ cosmogenic 36Cl measured in 122 boulders from moraines on Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro. The oldest deposits sampled on Kilimanjaro yield a limiting 36Cl age of s 360 calendar kyr (all 36Cl ages are in calendar years, cal. kyr or cal. yr). On Mount Kenya, the oldest moraines give ages of 355^420 kyr (Liki I) and 255^28...

Quaternary rise of the Sedom diapir, Dead Sea basin

Mount Sedom is the surface expression of a salt diapir that has emerged since the Pleistocene in the southwestern part of the Dead Sea basin. Milestones in the uplift history of the Sedom salt diapir since its inception were deduced from angular and erosional unconformities, thickness variations, caprock formation, chemistry and isotope composition of lacustrine aragonite, cave morphology, prec...
